Seacon Shipping, a Hong Kong-based shipping company, has expanded its fleet with a $19.6 million contract to purchase a new tanker and chemical vessel. This acquisition comes as reports of the sale of four MR tankers are emerging.
Tanker Purchase Details
Seacon's subsidiary in Singapore has agreed to purchase the new tanker with a capacity of 4,981 tons named Jia Yue Ming Zhu, which was built in October of this year. This tanker will soon be renamed Golden Canna. According to documents released on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, this tanker is being acquired from Sanhe Jiaye, a company based in the Marshall Islands.

Seacon will pay $2.94 million as a deposit upon delivery, with the remaining $16.66 million to be settled within the next 120 days. This purchase will be financed through internal resources and external financing.
Fleet Developments and Future Plans
This new acquisition follows reports of the sale of four MR tankers as a package, including two newly built tankers and two others currently under construction. Seacon has not publicly confirmed this deal.
Seacon is actively restructuring its tanker fleet, combining investments in chemical tankers and new products with the sale of tankers and financing agreements. In June, the company agreed to purchase two chemical and oil tankers named Golden Gerbera and Golden Osmanthus from Oriental Prime Shipping for $39.2 million.
Additionally, in August, Seacon secured $103.4 million in financing for four chemical tankers weighing 18,500 tons, replacing previous sales and lease agreements with a new 10-year facility with lower financing margins.
