MPC Oceanic Group, registered in Hamburg, has signed an agreement to acquire 41% of Marlow Navigation's shares, a Cyprus-based ship management company. This agreement strengthens a deep bond of over a decade between the two companies and allows current shareholders of Marlow to approximately acquire 9% of MPC Oceanic's shares through the issuance of new shares.

Maintaining Majority Control for Marlow

Through this agreement, the current owners of Marlow will retain majority control, and the Limassol-based company will continue its independent operations under the existing brand and leadership. The financial terms of the agreement have not been publicly disclosed.

Strengthening Position in Crew Management and Training

This agreement brings MPC Oceanic closer to becoming one of the largest crew management service providers in the world. Marlow currently employs over 16,000 seafarers on its vessels, and its crew management services encompass over 1,150 ships worldwide. Additionally, more than 1,300 ground staff are employed by the company across 13 countries.

This investment is part of a generational transition at Marlow, founded by Hermann Eden, who continues to serve as the chairman. The agreement also provides Marlow access to MPC Oceanic's broader investment capacity, technology, and marine service network.

MPC Oceanic's CEO, Constantin Baack, stated that this collaboration will strengthen the group's position in crew management and training, especially as more complex propulsion systems, alternative fuels, and stricter regulations put additional pressure on seafarers.

MPC Oceanic updated its current name in September of this year to reflect its expansion from investment management to ship operations, marine services, and energy infrastructure. The group currently manages and operates over 400 vessels and energy assets.

For Marlow, this agreement marks a new development in ownership after four years of abandoning merger plans with Cyprus-based Columbia Shipmanagement. The two companies had been pursuing a merger since 2017 but canceled the proposal in October 2022 and continued their independent operations.
