International Registries, responsible for the registration of the Republic of the Marshall Islands (IRI), which holds the second largest registration in the world with 227 million gross tons and 6,819 ships, has opened its first office in Ireland. This office is located in the city of Cork and aims to strengthen Ireland's position as a maritime hub.
Participation in the Ireland Maritime Conference
This news was announced at the Ireland Maritime Trade Conference held in Dublin. At the conference, Minister of State Seán Canney, who is responsible for international and road transport as well as ports and railways, was present. He described the opening of this office as a milestone for maritime trade in Ireland and said: "The choice of Cork as the location for the IRI office is not coincidental, but rather a result of Ireland's ongoing efforts to strengthen its maritime infrastructure."
Growth of Ireland as a Maritime Hub
Ireland, as a growing maritime nation, is known for hosting the National Maritime College of Ireland and developing maritime regulatory frameworks. The country is striving to position itself as a maritime hub in the Atlantic. The new IRI office will be led by Conor Mowlds, who has a background in leading the National Maritime College of Ireland.
Minister Canney also added: "IRI's decision to establish an office in Ireland reflects international attention to the geographical position and maritime infrastructure of this country, and we are confident that this move will attract more investments and increase global recognition of Ireland."
