The Energy Supply Company for Europe (SEFE) signed a new gas supply contract with Trafigura worth 150 terawatt-hours (TWh) that strengthens the energy security of Germany and Europe until the end of 2031.
Details of the Gas Supply Contract
This contract includes the supply of 30 terawatt-hours of natural gas annually over a five-year period starting from November 1, 2026. The gas supply will primarily come from Trafigura's global portfolio and represents an increase in supply volume compared to the previous contract, which averaged 23 terawatt-hours per year.

Strategic Implications for Energy Security
SEFE's new contract with Trafigura allows the company to be covered under Germany's government loan guarantee scheme (UFK). This scheme is part of the German government's raw materials strategy and helps ensure access to strategic goods. Additionally, this agreement helps SEFE source gas from a more diverse range of sources and act as a reliable energy supplier for its German and European customers.
Frédéric Barnaud, SEFE's Commercial Director, stated: "With this new agreement, we continue our successful collaboration with Trafigura. This company is an important partner for SEFE due to its global access and deep market expertise. Such partnerships enhance our ability to supply natural gas from various sources."
Igor Marin, Global Head of Gas, Power, and Renewables at Trafigura, also said: "We are pleased to develop our relationship with SEFE through this new five-year contract. Trafigura's gas portfolio and global logistics network enable us to provide reliable supply to Europe, and we take pride in continuing our collaboration to ensure Germany's energy security."
This new contract is a natural continuation of the previous four-year contract that ends in October 2026. Given the significant increase in supply volume, this agreement greatly aids in diversifying SEFE's supply portfolio. At the same time, SEFE has recently secured a multi-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply contract from Canada, reflecting the company's strategic steps toward sustainable energy supply for the future.
