Asia Break Bulk, a Singapore-based company, has secured four new tankers with a capacity of 12,600 deadweight tons (dwt) by signing a long-term agreement with Schoeller Holdings. These tankers, designed as Octopus type, are equipped with two 250-ton cranes capable of simultaneous loading of up to 500 tons. The delivery of the first tanker is expected in October 2028, with the remaining three being delivered gradually in the future.
Design Details and Capabilities of the Tankers
The new tankers feature a rectangular cargo hold over 89 meters long, and the upper structure installed at the front provides additional space for large cargoes. These vessels are designed with ice class 1A and will have a service speed of 15 knots. No further information has been released regarding the shipbuilding yard or the financial terms of the agreement.

Impact of the Agreement on Asia Break Bulk Operations
Asia Break Bulk, which celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year, has traditionally operated in providing semi-liner services between Asia and Europe. With the addition of this new fleet, the company will be able to expand its operational scope through global tramp operations and reach complex projects and destinations with limited port infrastructure.
Maximilian Fischer, CEO of Asia Break Bulk, stated that customers are increasingly seeking shorter transit times and direct access to ports with depth restrictions, which reduces the need for costly and time-consuming clearances.
Schoeller Holdings supports the new shipbuilding program, and Columbia Shipmanagement will oversee the construction and will take on technical management and crew after the vessels are put into service.
This agreement adds to Schoeller's extensive investment in multipurpose and heavy cargo capacities. Earlier this year, the group registered two 32,000-ton MPP vessels at the CSSC Huangpu Wenchong yard in China for delivery in 2029, a relationship that dates back to 2008.
