WinGD, the Swiss marine power manufacturer, has signed its first licensing agreement with HD Hyundai Marine Engine (formerly known as STX Heavy Industries). This agreement significantly enhances WinGD's capacity to provide dual-fuel and diesel engine designs for fleet and tanker construction projects in Korea and other markets.

Strengthening Collaborations and Improving Marine Engine Design

HD Hyundai Marine Engine, acquired in 2024 by HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, a part of the HD Hyundai Group, adds its expertise in producing small and medium dual-fuel engines to WinGD. This collaboration enables WinGD to offer its engines for various shipbuilding sectors, including large transport vessels and tankers.

Peter Krahenbuehl, Vice President of Product Center at WinGD, stated at the signing ceremony: "This new agreement expands our capability to provide main engines to high-volume sectors in Korea and allows customers of HD Hyundai Marine Engine to choose WinGD's engine technology. We hope to work closely with HD Hyundai Marine Engine to enhance the accessibility and competitiveness of WinGD's medium engine portfolio."

New Advances in WinGD Engine Technology

Under this agreement, WinGD and HD Hyundai Marine Engine will collaborate to reduce costs and improve the design integrity of their vessels. WinGD's mid-range engines include the X52 and X62 series, which are suitable for standard designs of transport vessels and tankers. These engines are designed as dual-fuel (X-DF), allowing the use of LNG, ammonia/LPG, or methanol/ethanol.

WinGD's latest advancement in this area is the short-stroke X-S design, available in both 52 and 62 types, suitable for diesel or dual-fuel use. This short-stroke platform has improved power and efficiency and is suitable for vessels with deck height or depth restrictions.

Engines produced by HD Hyundai Marine Engine will be used in new shipbuilding projects, both in Korea and in export markets.
