The CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company, Saeed Tavakoli, announced a reduction in the country's gas production capacity by 400 million cubic meters during this winter's peak consumption. This reduction in capacity occurred due to attacks on the facilities of four gas refineries on March 18 and increased consumption in the residential sector.

Reduction in gas production and its consequences

Tavakoli stated that following the attacks on gas facilities, approximately 230 million cubic meters of the country's gas production capacity has been lost, of which 100 million cubic meters has returned to the production cycle so far. He added that there is currently a reduction of about 130 million cubic meters in production capacity, which, combined with the imbalances of previous years during peak consumption of 250 to 300 million cubic meters, has resulted in a total reduction of 400 million cubic meters in production capacity during this year's peak consumption.

The role of gas consumption management in overcoming cold days

The CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company emphasized the role of consumption management in overcoming the cold days of the year, stating that using simple solutions such as thick curtains and sealing windows can help reduce consumption. He also referred to the indoor temperature and added that it should be set between 18 to 21 degrees Celsius. Tavakoli, referring to the "20" campaign, said: "During peak consumption, for every one degree reduction in indoor temperature, about 25 million cubic meters of gas consumption is saved."

He also provided recommendations regarding closing air conditioning vents during the cold season, setting the temperature of the boiler and heating systems between 55 to 60 degrees Celsius, and adhering to the requirements of Section 19 of the National Building Regulations. Tavakoli pointed out the extensive gas distribution network in the country, stating: "The length of gas transmission and distribution lines in Iran is equivalent to 11.5 times the circumference of the Earth."

The CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company also mentioned the consequences of increased gas consumption in the residential sector on other sectors, stating that this increase could lead to higher gas consumption in the residential sector and cause power plants and other production sectors to resort to liquid fuel. Tavakoli said: "Using alternative fuel in power plants is not inherently problematic, but some power plants are located within cities, and the consumption of liquid fuel in them can lead to the emission of pollutants and urban environmental pollution."
