The CEO of Alborz Power Distribution Company warned about energy imbalance and the challenges ahead in the winter season. As the cold season approaches, the stable supply of energy has once again become an important issue that can affect residential, industrial, and commercial sectors.
Energy Imbalance and Electricity Supply Challenges
Masoud Khajavand, the CEO of Alborz Power Distribution Company, elaborated on the dimensions of energy imbalance and consumption management plans in the province during his recent press conference. He emphasized that a large portion of the country's electricity production relies on thermal power plants, and fuel supply limitations to these plants, especially in winter, pose challenges to electricity supply.

Khajavand added: "About 80% of the country's power plants are thermal, and the remaining 20% include solar, wind, nuclear, and hydroelectric plants. Half of the thermal power plants are of the combined cycle, gas, and dual-fuel type, which have faced fuel limitations in recent years due to gas imbalance."
The Necessity of Consumption Management and Increased Production
The CEO of Alborz Power Distribution Company pointed out the necessity of increasing production and managing consumption simultaneously, stating: "More than 6,500 megawatts of solar power capacity was brought online last year, but foreign attacks on industrial power plants have also affected part of the country's electricity production capacity."
He also mentioned: "According to statistics, about 30% of Alborz subscribers fall outside the designated consumption pattern, and this issue doubles the need for consumption control." Khajavand emphasized the implementation of the Mahtab plan, which aims to intelligently manage energy losses, adding: "This plan is continuously being implemented, and its goal is to reduce electricity consumption in the province."
Furthermore, Nasser Hosseini, the CEO of Alborz Gas Company, also referred to the challenges of energy imbalance in the country, stating: "Iran has vast capacities in terms of oil and gas reserves, but we do not have appropriate consumption behavior and are among the world's high-consumption countries. In winter, the daily gas consumption of the country increases to over 300 million cubic meters, putting significant pressure on the gas supply network."
The CEO of Alborz Gas Company emphasized the need to reduce gas consumption by 3.8 million cubic meters daily in winter and called for public cooperation in this regard. According to him, supplying gas for the residential sector is a priority, and this can impact electricity production.
