The High Supervisory Board of the Expediency Council, on November 2, 2026, examined the performance of general energy policies. This meeting was chaired by Ayatollah Amoli Larijani and attended by board members and representatives of the heads of the three branches of government. Dr. Saghab Isfahani, Vice President and Head of the Organization for Optimization and Strategic Management of Energy, was also present at this meeting.
Review of Agency Performance
The report presented by the Infrastructure and Production Commission of the Council evaluated the performance of agencies in the areas of production, transmission, and intensity of consumption of various energies including oil, gas, oil products, and electricity. This evaluation also includes an examination of internal and external factors affecting performance in this area.
Attention to the intrinsic value of energy resources and the appropriateness of pricing and supply of products were other main themes of this report. Additionally, the preservation of resources in extraction and utilization and the reform of energy consumption patterns were emphasized in this report.
General Energy Policies and Review Process
The general energy policies were communicated in 2000 and are considered a framework for optimizing and reforming energy consumption in the country. In this context, the axes of optimization and reform of energy consumption have also been included in the clauses of the sixth and seventh five-year general policies.
The continuation of the High Supervisory Board's reviews and evaluations was postponed to the next meeting. The results of this evaluation will ultimately be presented to the Supreme Leader. It is worth mentioning that in 2025, the results of the High Supervisory Board's evaluation on the implementation of general energy policies were also presented to the martyr leader of the revolution.
