Scorpio Tankers has reported that the daily revenues of its tankers have significantly increased due to the war in the Middle East, with average daily rates for LR2 tankers recorded at $181,000 per day in the fourth quarter of this year.

150 Percent Increase in Revenues

This figure represents an increase of approximately 150 percent compared to $72,283 per day that the company's LR2 tankers earned in the third quarter. These changes clearly depict extraordinary conditions in the tanker shipping market, as the war in the Middle East has altered trade routes and limited the supply of tankers.

Impact of War on the Tanker Market

In its third-quarter earnings report, Scorpio noted that the war has led to disruptions in traditional shipping routes, increased travel times, and geographical shifts of tankers. As a result, the supply of tankers has decreased, and freight rates have increased. Mid-range tankers have also earned an average of $56,000 per day, improving from $31,183 in the third quarter. Additionally, Handymax tankers have recorded an average of $40,000 per day, up from the previous $24,253.

In the fourth quarter, these figures are preliminary and include 44% of expected revenue days for LR2s, 47% for MRs, and 37% for Handymax tankers. Actual revenue for the entire quarter will depend on the rates achieved for the remaining days.

Financial Status of Scorpio Tankers

Scorpio, one of the largest product tanker operators in the world, reported a net income of $224.3 million in the third quarter of this year, representing an increase of approximately 165 percent compared to last year. Adjusted net income has also reached $127.4 million. The company has experienced higher revenues despite a reduction in its average fleet from 99 ships to 75 ships.

Scorpio is also leveraging its financial strength to expand its presence in the crude tanker market, investing $38.4 million in Volare Shipping. These investments represent a significant expansion beyond the company's traditional focus on refined petroleum products.
