Masoud Pezeshkian, the President, emphasized the need for organizing fuel consumption in the public transport fleet during a meeting dedicated to optimizing and managing fuel consumption. This meeting was held with the presence of officials from executive bodies and relevant institutions, and the latest actions regarding the management and oversight of energy carrier distribution were reviewed.
Reducing Fuel Consumption and Organizing the Distribution System
In this session, reports on the realization of planned programs for reducing fuel consumption were presented, and the necessity of enhancing inter-agency coordination and identifying resource waste bottlenecks was emphasized. The President pointed out that the actions taken could lead to a daily reduction of about 3 to 5 million liters in fuel consumption.

Additionally, statistics show that the amount of fuel imports in the current Mehr month has decreased by 58% compared to the same month last year. This reduction in consumption and imports highlights the necessity for proper and targeted management in fuel distribution.
Equity in Subsidy Distribution and Reforming Allocation Patterns
Pezeshkian further pointed out the necessity of clarifying the dimensions of reform policies for public opinion and emphasized that the main goal of the government in reforming energy subsidy distribution mechanisms is not to generate revenue, but to establish equity in the distribution of national resources. He added: "Policies should be designed in a way that prioritizes public interests and the needs of underprivileged groups."
The President also referred to the necessity of revising the method of gas subsidy allocation and called for designing a fair mechanism for households to benefit from government support. He criticized the allocation of subsidies to holders of multiple properties and called for the reform of these mechanisms.
Combating Fuel Smuggling and Continuous Oversight
Pezeshkian, in another part of the meeting, considered combating fuel smuggling and preventing the diversion of subsidized products from designated uses as essential requirements for energy consumption management. He emphasized that strict action must be taken against violators and their access to subsidized quotas should be limited.
The President stressed the need for establishing a continuous and data-driven oversight system over the supply chain, transfer, and consumption of fuel, adding: "If management, control, and oversight of fuel consumption are carried out accurately and continuously, it should be clear how much fuel is consumed in the country and how much is diverted from the official distribution network."
Pezeshkian also called for organizing fuel consumption in various sectors and revising the allocation of subsidized quotas to legal entities, emphasizing the necessity of creating an accurate database regarding the status of the public transport fleet. He stated that each responsible agency should have information about the number of transport fleets to accurately assess their fuel consumption.
