A 10% reduction in fuel consumption in the transportation sector can have a significant impact on energy imbalance. Given that fuel consumption in the country has exceeded domestic production capacity, managing this situation requires new strategies. These methods should focus on reducing consumption to help decrease dependence on imports and improve the country's economic situation.
The Necessity of Reducing Fuel Consumption
Estimates show that Iran imports between 10 to 12 million liters of fuel daily. By reducing consumption by 10%, a significant amount of these imports can be cut, alleviating pressure on the energy supply network. This issue is not limited to economic savings; it can also lead to greater security for the country against currency and political fluctuations.

Development of Public Transportation
One of the simplest and most effective solutions for reducing fuel consumption is the development of public and shared transportation. Using ride-hailing services and other forms of public transport instead of personal vehicles can help reduce fuel consumption. To achieve this goal, the quality and safety of public transportation must be improved to compete with personal vehicles.
Additionally, the targeted use of alternative fuels such as dual-fuel vehicles and, in the long term, electric and hybrid cars can also reduce pressure on gasoline. However, these changes require appropriate infrastructure and necessary investments.
Managing Unnecessary Travel
Reducing unnecessary travel is also proposed as another strategy for managing fuel consumption. The development of remote work, electronic services, and the consolidation of urban services can help reduce the number of daily trips. These small changes, on a national scale, can have a significant impact on total fuel consumption.
The per capita fuel consumption in the country is about 5 liters, while this figure is around 4 liters in other countries like Turkey. This difference indicates that improving fuel consumption efficiency should also be prioritized. In a situation where Iran is one of the largest holders of energy resources, the challenge of imbalance in certain energy carriers highlights the need to pay attention to consumption patterns.
If a 10% reduction in fuel consumption becomes a national goal, policymakers must provide the necessary economic tools and infrastructure to achieve this goal. These efforts can significantly contribute to securing the country's energy resources and enhance national energy security.
