Mohammad Mirzaei, a member of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, has examined the critical conditions of natural gas consumption in the country and stated that the damages caused by U.S. sanctions and Zionism to the production infrastructure of South Pars have led to an approximate 20% decline in the country's daily natural gas production capacity. He also noted that due to the lengthy process of recovering this capacity, a shift towards optimizing consumption and reducing losses is essential.
The Necessity of Preventive Measures for Gas Supply in the Cold Season
Mirzaei further pointed out the importance of adopting preventive approaches for sustainable gas supply in the cold season, saying: "As we approach the cold months of the year, the likelihood of pressure drops and gas outages at the end of the transmission network significantly increases. Therefore, large-scale planning in this regard must be carried out swiftly."

He also referred to the interconnectedness of the energy and industry sectors, stating: "Gas imbalance is not just a challenge in the heating sector, but it can also have negative impacts on the stability of the electricity network and industrial and agricultural production."
Strategies for Increasing Energy Efficiency
Mirzaei, referencing studies by the Research Center of the Parliament, traced part of the high energy consumption intensity in the residential sector to the low thermal efficiency of buildings and the wear and tear of equipment. He emphasized that thermal losses due to inadequate insulation of buildings contribute to energy waste.
In this context, Mirzaei introduced the development of the business model of "Gas Operator Companies" as an effective and practical solution. These companies can interact with the public to implement energy optimization measures and carry out insulation and equipment renovation projects. These actions can not only help maintain household comfort levels but also significantly reduce gas consumption and bills.
Emphasis on Accelerating the Issuance of Savings Certificates
Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, emphasized the necessity of utilizing the capacity of private companies for optimizing gas consumption and called for the acceleration of issuing savings certificates for households. He also stressed that households should benefit financially from reduced consumption.
Mirzaei concluded by stating: "Overcoming the gas imbalance crisis requires a comprehensive and multifaceted policy package that includes a gradual tariff system, protection of conventional subscribers, and targeting unconventional consumption." He also emphasized the need for regulatory and gradual approaches in energy carrier pricing and noted that pressure on low-income groups in this regard should be minimized.
