Javad Noferesti, a senior energy expert, provided analyses regarding the gas imbalance in the country and the significant energy wastage in buildings. He pointed out the non-implementation of approved laws and the negligence of supervisory bodies, discussing the existing problems in the energy sector and solutions for optimizing gas consumption.
Roots of Energy Imbalance
Noferesti referred to the failure of governments and parliaments to adhere to legal resolutions over the past three decades, stating: "This situation has exacerbated the energy imbalance in the country. Currently, the country faces a daily gas deficit of 300 to 400 million cubic meters. With public cooperation in the residential sector, up to 80 million cubic meters of this deficit can be reduced."

This energy expert emphasized that to achieve this goal, a 20% savings target should be set to ensure its realization at 10 to 15%. He stated that some gas consumers cannot reduce their consumption further, and the main burden of savings should fall on sectors that have the potential.
Necessity of Implementing Laws and Optimizing Consumption
Noferesti identified the primary root of today's challenges as the non-compliance with laws by executive bodies and the negligence of supervisory institutions. He pointed to the need for the implementation of Article 19 of the National Building Regulations, stating: "The implementation of this law has been delayed for over 30 years and requires real enforcement guarantees. If demolition orders were issued for buildings that violated the requirements instead of referring to commissions, the behavior of builders would change."
He criticized past incorrect decision-making and the lack of attention to building insulation, saying: "Many buildings lack the basics of insulation, leading to energy wastage and heat loss. Additionally, outdated household appliances and old boiler rooms exacerbate the imbalance issue."
Noferesti added: "Currently, energy management has gone off the rails and is being managed based on urgency. Although energy wastage can be a strategic opportunity, attention must be paid to the need for optimization and reduction of energy consumption in buildings. Nevertheless, the existence of energy wastage also presents an opportunity for elites and knowledge-based companies."
This energy expert concluded by emphasizing that to reduce gas consumption in the residential sector, special attention should be given to the insulation of structures and the use of standard energy-efficient appliances. Otherwise, future crises in the energy sector will be inevitable.
