The increase of the 50-liter gasoline quota at a rate of 10,000 tomans has begun in 12 operational areas of the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC). This action is aimed at controlling gasoline consumption and reducing dependence on free station cards, raising the total monthly quota of personal fuel cards to 160 liters.

Details of the New Plan

According to available information, this plan, which was previously tested in the provinces of Kerman, Sistan and Baluchestan, and Hormozgan, has now been expanded to East Azerbaijan, West Azerbaijan, Ardabil, Kurdistan, Razavi Khorasan, North Khorasan, South Khorasan, Yazd, Bushehr, and Kerman. Reza Hajihosseini, the head of public relations at the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company, has confirmed that the new 50-liter gasoline quota at a rate of 10,000 tomans has been activated in these areas.

Goals and Consequences

The main goal of this plan is to reduce drivers' dependence on free station cards and encourage them to use personal fuel cards. According to this program, previous gasoline quotas will be maintained, and a new quota for refueling with personal cards has been established. The total announced quotas will include 60 liters at a rate of 1,500 tomans, 50 liters at a rate of 3,000 tomans, and an additional 50 liters at a rate of 10,000 tomans.

With these changes, the government aims to control gasoline consumption and combat fuel smuggling. However, previous experiences indicate that these plans have not been without challenges, and the method of monitoring cards and preventing commercial use of quotas will also be significant.

In previous stages, free station cards were collected, and a quota of 30 liters was added to the 110-liter quota for vehicles. However, to ensure that this program does not stagnate, a new quota for operational areas has now been established.

Currently, the policy of restricting public use of free station cards continues, and these cards will still be usable for emergency and special vehicles. Therefore, the change in gasoline quotas is only part of a review program in the fuel distribution method, which also includes the use of bank cards and token systems.
