The Director General of Roads and Urban Development of Laristan, Sajjad Mirzaei, announced the completion of the rehabilitation project of the Lar - Lamerd axis on 2024/09/23. This project, which has long been a demand of the local people due to specific topographical conditions, dangerous curves, and non-standard slopes, has finally been completed after years of delays and budget constraints, thanks to financial resources and expedited execution processes, and is now ready for operation.

Importance of the Rehabilitation of the Lar - Lamerd Axis

Mirzaei emphasized the importance of this project in enhancing traffic safety, stating that the area known as "Tal-e Talhaye Birm" has historically been considered one of the most dangerous points on the Lar - Lamerd axis due to steep passes, sharp turns, and poor geometric conditions of the route. Unfortunately, traffic accidents in this area have inflicted numerous human and financial losses on the local population. Therefore, the improvement of this section of the axis aimed at eliminating dangerous curves and increasing traffic safety was prioritized.

Technical Details of the Project

The Director General of Roads and Urban Development of Laristan detailed the technical specifications of the project, stating that this plan was executed over a length of four kilometers and a width of 11 meters. During the execution of this project, 380,000 cubic meters of earth were excavated, 35,000 cubic meters were filled, seven culverts were constructed, and 7,800 cubic meters of sub-base and base layers were implemented. Mirzaei pointed out the significant volume of construction operations in this mountainous area, emphasizing that the challenging geographical conditions and the high volume of excavation and trenching made the execution of this project technically complex. Nevertheless, with appropriate planning and the utilization of execution capacities, the rehabilitation of the route was completed.

The execution of this project began in 2016 by the General Directorate of Roads and Urban Development of Laristan, but due to financial resource limitations and credit issues, it did not make significant progress until 2024. Given the importance of completing this axis and the necessity of responding to public demands, efforts to secure the required funding and reactivate the project were vigorously pursued.

Funding and Acceleration of the Project

Mirzaei added that after a field visit by Dr. Akbari, the esteemed Deputy Minister and Head of the Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization of the country, and with the continuous follow-ups of the General Directorate of Roads and Urban Development of Laristan, part of the financial resources needed was secured from the social responsibility budgets of the oil company and the budgets of the Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization of the country. The injection of these funds and the use of local contractor capacities facilitated a transformation in the execution process of the project, such that the operational execution, after years of slow progress, was pursued with significant acceleration, and ultimately, this project was completed and ready for operation with a budget of 3 trillion rials.

The Director General of Roads and Urban Development of Laristan concluded by emphasizing the strategic role of the Lar - Lamerd axis in the communication network of southern Iran, noting that the importance of completing this route is not limited to facilitating travel between cities and regions but also serves as one of the effective communication routes for accessing major industrial and economic hubs in southern Iran, including Assaluyeh, South Pars, the Lamerd Special Economic Zone for Energy-Intensive Industries, the Parsian Gas Refinery, and the cities of Lamerd and Mehr.
