Guangzhou Marine Equipment Group officially commenced operations with a registered capital of 2 billion Chinese Yuan (equivalent to 300 million dollars). The group has begun its activities following a launch ceremony this week and is fully owned by Guangzhou Industrial Investment Group.
Group Goals and Strategies
Guangzhou Marine Equipment Group has been established with the aim of strengthening Guangzhou's position in the shipbuilding industry. The group intends to combine local production assets with investment and marine services to achieve further development in this field. The company specifically relies on businesses operating in various areas such as marine engines, heavy engineering, and shipbuilding equipment.
The group is also looking to expand into new areas including ship modernization, equipment maintenance, industrial park development, leasing, and inspection services. The financial target of the group is to reach a business scale of approximately 3.9 billion dollars by 2030.
Development of Shipbuilding Infrastructure
This launch coincides with a major expansion of shipbuilding infrastructure in the city of Guangzhou. One of the significant projects under development is the establishment of a new marine equipment and shipbuilding production base in the northern Longxi area, which includes an investment of approximately 1.09 billion dollars.
This project, which was launched in September, is being developed separately from the establishment of the new group and is expected that the Guangzhou group will operate these facilities. This facility, which is planned to be completed by 2029, is considered an important center for marine equipment production.
Guangzhou Marine Equipment Group will also participate in the development of this base, although the financial details of this partnership have not yet been disclosed.
This new move follows multiple investments made by shipbuilders based in Guangzhou to cope with their high order volumes. For example, Guangzhou Industrial Group recently signed an agreement with China Railway Shanhaiguan Bridge Group to outsource the production of hull blocks, which helps increase production capacity outside the traditional shipbuilding supply chain.
The factory is also expanding its scope of operations, with new facilities planned in the Xiaohudao and northern Longxi areas, while construction timelines are moving towards 2030.
