Fugro, a Dutch specialist in marine surveys, has signed a multi-year framework contract with the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency of Germany (BSH) to conduct geotechnical surveys in the North Sea of Germany. This agreement includes the collection of marine geotechnical data using drilling vessels and specialized cone penetration test equipment beneath the seabed, along with laboratory analyses at Fugro's facilities in Germany, Belgium, and the UK.
Contract Details
Fugro's marine operations in Germany and the Netherlands will be responsible for the necessary coordination to carry out this work, with the marine survey program scheduled to begin in mid-March 2027. This framework contract allows BSH to request services from the date of contract award. Fugro has not disclosed the contract value or the expected workload during its duration.

Implications of Geotechnical Surveys
The surveys will provide information regarding the seabed and subsurface for areas considered for future offshore wind energy development. This information will assist potential developers in assessing foundation conditions, geological hazards, and construction requirements before participating in project tenders. Germany's central preliminary survey system allows BSH to collect and publish technical information related to designated areas before offering them to developers.
Erik Vogt, project manager at Fugro Germany, noted that the company's ability to deploy specialized geotechnical drilling vessels and CPT assets was a significant factor in securing this agreement. Fugro also has a strong relationship with BSH and previously received another multi-year geotechnical survey contract from this agency in 2021.
