Equinor, the Norwegian energy giant, has received a permit to drill an exploratory well in the North Sea. This permit pertains to the drilling of well 33/9-F-4 DH under production license 1214 and was issued by the Norwegian Maritime Authority.

Details of the Production License

Production license 1214 was granted to Equinor and its partners including Petoro, OKEA, and Vår Energi on March 15, 2024. Equinor holds 17%, Petoro 30%, OKEA 28%, and Vår Energi 25% of this license. This license will be valid until March 15, 2030.

Drilling Execution Method

The drilling of this exploratory well will be conducted using the semi-submersible platform COSL Promoter, which was built in 2012 and is designed to operate in water depths of up to 750 meters. This drilling platform is highly suitable for oil explorations in the North Sea due to its technical capabilities.

As one of the largest energy companies in Norway, Equinor is striving to increase its share in sustainable energy production by exploring new resources. This drilling could provide new information about the underground resources of this region and help improve energy development strategies in Norway.

Given the importance of new drilling in the North Sea, this action could have significant impacts on the energy market as well as on the energy strategies of the countries in the region. The results of this drilling are expected to benefit various companies active in this field in the long term and contribute to increased oil and gas production.
