Farhad Fallahi, head of the Research Institute for Transmission and Distribution at the Power Research Center, addressed the existing challenges regarding energy imbalance in the country and emphasized the need for reforming consumption patterns and developing energy resources. He stated that the issue of energy imbalance cannot be solved merely by increasing production capacity and requires a series of simultaneous actions in the areas of consumption management and changing the usage patterns of energy carriers.

Challenges of Energy Imbalance

Fallahi stated in an interview with the media: "Energy imbalance has become one of the major challenges of the country; an issue that, in addition to the limitations of the production sector, is also related to consumption patterns, equipment efficiency, and the usage patterns of energy carriers." He pointed out that solely relying on the development of new capacities cannot meet short-term needs. Many large energy projects require significant time and investment to reach the operational stage.

The Need for Comprehensive Planning

The head of the Research Institute for Transmission and Distribution at the Power Research Center continued: "Energy policy must pursue strategies alongside long-term development programs that enable the reduction of consumption and management of pressure on the electricity grid and other energy infrastructures in a shorter time frame." Fallahi emphasized that increasing production alone does not address the issue of imbalance, stating that consumption management and energy optimization must be considered simultaneously with the development of new resources.

He referred to the significant potential of various sectors such as buildings, cooling and heating equipment, and industries for reducing consumption and increasing efficiency, explaining that reforming consumption patterns can be as effective in bridging the gap between energy supply and demand as developing new resources.

The Necessity of Revising Energy Consumption Patterns

Fallahi highlighted the necessity of revising the way energy carriers are used, stating: "Decision-making in this area should be based on the economic value, efficiency, and optimal application of each energy carrier." He added that in some sectors, energy consumption structures can be reformed by using high-efficiency electrical equipment, developing renewable resources, and replacing low-efficiency technologies.

The head of the Research Institute for Transmission and Distribution at the Power Research Center emphasized that implementing these changes requires careful planning and attention to costs and economic and social consequences. He concluded by stating that "the issue of energy imbalance cannot be resolved with a single solution. The development of production capacities, increasing efficiency, managing consumption, reforming the usage patterns of energy carriers, and developing corresponding infrastructures must be pursued within a coherent and coordinated program."
