Carnival Corporation, as the world's largest cruise company, invited over 100 participants from Caribbean Maritime University on an educational voyage aboard the Carnival Dream in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, on October 28, 2026. This trip included 20 cadet students aimed at familiarizing them with career opportunities in the cruise industry.

Introduction to the Cruise Industry

Students and accompanying faculty from the School of Marine Studies and Navigation, as well as the School of Transport and Logistics, had the opportunity to learn about various professional fields that support the operations of cruise ships and the maritime sector. The program included a training session and a guided tour of the Carnival Dream, helping students understand the technical, operational, and hospitality tasks that contribute to the successful operation of a cruise ship.

Jamaica's Position in the Maritime Industry

Marie McKenzie, Senior Vice President of Government and Destination Affairs at Carnival Corporation, hosted the visit with members of the Carnival Cruise Line team. She stated, "As a Jamaican, it is gratifying to welcome Caribbean Maritime University students aboard the Carnival Dream," emphasizing that Jamaica has a strong maritime heritage and talented youth who can contribute to the future of this sector. She also mentioned that this tour could expand students' understanding of the opportunities available in this industry and encourage them to chart their career paths in this field.

During the program, students became acquainted with various departments of the ship and career paths, gaining hands-on experience of the requirements needed to manage a modern cruise ship, from the bridge and engine room to hospitality operations.
