Wallenius Wilhelmsen, the Norwegian automotive transport giant, has signed a maritime transport contract worth approximately $700 million with a major Asian automaker. This contract is part of the company's efforts to expand its collaborations and strengthen existing relationships with customers.

Contract Details and Scope

This recently announced three-year contract brings the total value of new contracts obtained by Wallenius Wilhelmsen in the past five days to over $1.7 billion. The shipping rates in this contract align with current market levels and include an option for a two-year extension, subject to mutual agreement.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen has also considered a multi-fuel approach for all commercial routes in this contract, gradually enabling the introduction of alternative and low-carbon fuels. John Fleetto, the company's Chief Customer Officer, stated that this long-term commitment will enhance the group's ability to support a broader customer supply chain.

Fleet Development and Expansion

This new contract was signed just days after Wallenius Wilhelmsen had signed two other contracts worth over $1 billion with a major equipment manufacturer. These contracts, which are also valid for three years, include approximately $950 million in maritime transport and nearly $100 million in logistics services.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen is continuously strengthening its contract portfolio this year. In June, the company signed an early $420 million extension with a major European automaker, extending the contract until mid-2031. Additionally, the group signed a $190 million vehicle redistribution contract in March and a $130 million transport contract with an Asian automaker and heavy equipment manufacturer in January.

The new contracts follow the expansion of the company's fleet renewal program at Jinling Shipyard in China. Last week, Wallenius Wilhelmsen finalized a contract for four dual-fuel car carriers of 9,900 CEU, with an option for eight more vessels. The new ships are scheduled to be added to the fleet between 2030 and 2032, and the total investment could reach $1.5 billion if all options are exercised.
