On November 1, 2023, Venture Global delivered its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipment under a long-term sales contract to Shell at the Plaquemines export facility in Louisiana. This delivery followed the completion of the commissioning phase of the facility and its transition to commercial operations.

Delivery Details and Execution Phases

The Plaquemines facility reached commercial operation after 22 months of producing its first liquefied natural gas. As one of Venture Global's key projects, it recently completed the commissioning phase. The tanker Malaga Knutsen loaded the first commercial shipment for Shell at 3:26 AM local time (09:26 GMT) on November 1.

Long-Term Contracts and Pricing

Venture Global has announced that the phase one customers include Shell, Orlen, Sinopec, CNOOC Gas & Power, and EDF, who will receive LNG under long-term contracts. The pricing of these contracts will be significantly lower than the highest prices in the past 46 months, which were around $34 per million BTU in the Dutch Title Transfer Facility market index and $32 in the Japan and Korea market index.

By leveraging extensive commissioning phases at its facilities, Venture Global has been able to sell Plaquemines shipments in the spot market. This is particularly significant given that prices have risen due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.

Growth and Development of Venture Global

Venture Global, which started as a startup just five years ago, is now recognized as the second-largest LNG producer in the United States and is contributing to the U.S. leadership in LNG exports. With recent developments, the company is looking to expand its markets and meet customer needs globally.

It is expected that Venture Global, by continuing this trend, will be able to achieve better positions in the global LNG market and attract more customers. In this regard, long-term contracts with major energy companies can serve as a successful strategy in this industry.
