SBM Offshore, a Netherlands-based company engaged in the design, construction, installation, and operation of floating marine facilities, has signed an important contract with Singapore's Seatrium for the integration of a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit. This project, designed to support offshore developments in South America, is estimated to be worth over $156 million (equivalent to S$200 million).

Project Details

Under this contract, Seatrium will be responsible for carrying out complex modifications to the vessel, integrating surface modules, and performing pre-commissioning work. The scope of this company's activities includes constructing key structures for anchoring and supporting pipes, flare towers, and related support structures. Additionally, activities related to vessel modifications and dry-docking are also included in this contract.

Furthermore, the contract includes mechanical completion, some pre-commissioning work, and support for commissioning and marine testing. The implementation of this project is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026 and be completed in 2029.

Implications of Collaboration Between SBM Offshore and Seatrium

This contract is seen as a sign of ongoing confidence in Seatrium's engineering, construction, and integration capabilities in complex FPSO projects. Seatrium emphasized that this contract strengthens their long-term collaboration with SBM Offshore and demonstrates the strength of their execution capabilities in complex projects.

According to Seatrium officials, "This contract has strengthened our collaboration with SBM Offshore and showcases the strength of our execution capabilities in complex projects. By leveraging experiences and lessons learned from previous projects, along with our engineering expertise and reliable track record, we are proud to support the offshore development of South America and its increasing role in global energy supply, contributing to energy security and long-term economic growth."

The recent contract with Seatrium comes just months after SBM Offshore signed an agreement to construct the seventh Fast4Ward Multi-Purpose Floating Hull (MPF7) with Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding and China Shipbuilding Trading Co., both subsidiaries of the state-owned China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation.
