Russian officials announced that last night, a large-scale Ukrainian drone attack targeted an industrial facility in Nizhny Novgorod province. This attack particularly affected the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez oil refinery, which is considered one of the largest oil refineries in Russia.

Details of the Attack

Gleb Nikitin, the governor of the region, stated in a statement that this attack caused "significant damage" to industrial facilities in the Kstovsky area. He added that over 100 drones were destroyed in this attack, and fortunately, initial reports indicate that there were no casualties. Rescue teams are currently working at the site.

Consequences of the Attack

Nikitin also warned that following this attack, there may be temporary power outages as well as reduced hot water and heating in parts of the utility networks serving residential buildings. This attack comes amid reports of previous attacks on other oil refineries in Russia, including a major fire that occurred at one of the refineries in the Samara region.

This year, Ukraine has increased its attacks on Russian energy infrastructure, specifically targeting refineries and oil terminals. These actions are seen as part of Ukraine's efforts to weaken Russia's war machine and damage one of the country's most important economic engines.

In this context, Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, stated that Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure have led to power outages affecting approximately 280,000 households. He also mentioned the difficult situation regarding power supply in various regions of Ukraine and stated that rescue teams are working to address the issues caused by these attacks.
