Transito has addressed the combination of sea and domestic transport with the launch of a new service called 'Total Freight'. This initiative comes in response to pressures from low water levels and other disruptions affecting the transport of shipments between European sea ports and inland areas.
Details of the Total Freight Service
The 'Total Freight' service includes sea travel, port services, transshipment, and transport with domestic vessels. Customers of this service can receive one contract and one invoice for the entire route by paying a price per ton. Transito also takes responsibility for the waiting time between the sea vessel and the domestic vessel within an agreed range.

Managing Connections Between Transport Stages
Considering the issues that may arise from low water, port congestion, vessel delays, or incomplete documentation, this service helps shipments to face less waiting time for shippers in case of disruptions. Bas Weinberg from Transito explains: 'A sea vessel waits for the domestic vessel, the domestic vessel waits at the dock, and the terminal waits for the documents. These problems are usually imposed on the shippers. We manage both vessels ourselves, so if one of them is delayed, we coordinate the other with it.'
The 'Total Freight' service is dedicated to industrial buyers and medium traders without a transport department. The target group includes companies that transport agricultural shipments, building materials, fertilizers, minerals, recycled waste, and project cargo.
Given that low water can affect the loading of vessels and their scheduling, and that congestion or delays at sea can disrupt port communications, Transito is able to adjust schedules in case of changing conditions by coordinating both stages of transport. The 'Total Freight' service is available in both directions and includes shipments sent from inland Europe to destinations abroad.
The issue of low water has become a hot topic this summer. Last month, reports emerged indicating that the Rhine River has reached its effective dividing line, and the Danube River is also facing record low water levels. Germany, Romania, the Netherlands, Poland, and Bulgaria have suffered the most damage from this situation.
