Seyed Tohid Hossein Madani, head of the Smart Governance Think Tank, emphasized the necessity of optimizing energy consumption at the "Energy Efficiency in the Administrative Sector" meeting, referring to the 60% energy waste in government buildings. He described the energy imbalance situation in Iran as critical and stated that the gas and electricity shortages in the country have led to serious economic damages.
Challenges of Energy Imbalance in Iran
Madani pointed out that Iran ranks among the top countries in terms of oil and gas reserves, addressing the energy imbalance crisis in the country and stating that this imbalance is due to excessive consumption and insufficient investment in infrastructure. He referred to a gas shortage of 300 million cubic meters as one of the manifestations of this crisis and added that this shortage means reduced gas network capacity during the cold days of the year.

He also mentioned an electricity shortage of 18,000 megawatts in the country and emphasized that during the summer season, power outages in industries could impose damages equivalent to 8 trillion tomans on the country's economy. In addition, the issue of water scarcity was also raised as a serious challenge alongside the energy imbalance.
The Necessity of Change in Administrative Systems
Madani noted that with over 2.4 million employees in Iran's administrative system, this number of employees has led to the creation of millions of square meters of physical space, making the government the largest building owner in the country. He stressed that this issue has resulted in excessive energy consumption and waste in government buildings.
He suggested that to optimize consumption, old systems and equipment in government buildings should be replaced. For example, replacing old windows with double-glazed windows can lead to significant energy savings. Additionally, smartening boiler rooms with modern control systems can help reduce energy waste and optimize costs.
Madani also emphasized the necessity of reducing water consumption and optimizing management in this sector, stating: "The government must take serious actions to reduce energy consumption in its buildings to convey the seriousness of the crisis to society."
