Shell Australia, a wholly owned subsidiary of the UK-based Shell, has signed an agreement to divest its stake in a gas and LNG project to XRG, a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). This project involves Abu Dhabi Development Holding (ADQ) and Carlyle Global Investment.

Implications of the Divestment and Future Strategies
This sale follows Shell's divestment of its stake in the Browse project, an offshore gas development. The Browse project involves transporting gas from the Browse Basin to Karratha for processing and export through existing NWS infrastructure. Reduced production from the main NWS fields has created capacity at the Karratha gas plant, and plans are underway to extend the life of this project using existing infrastructure. This action is aimed at continuing to support local and global energy security as well as regional development opportunities in Western Australia.
Shell stated: "This agreement reflects our commitment to disciplined capital allocation and portfolio choices. This sale realizes the value of a mature and non-core asset and enhances Shell's strategy focused on investing in integrated gas positions, while NWS moves towards a third-party processing tariff model in the future. We take pride in our role as a founding partner in NWS and the role that NWS has played in Western Australia."
