Rodger Rees, the port director of Galveston and the CEO of this port, has been elected as the President of the Texas Ports Association (TPA) for a two-year term. This election was held on October 21, 2023, during the TPA members' meeting. TPA is a coalition consisting of 21 seaports and industry affiliates operating along the Gulf Coast and inland waterways.

Collaboration to Improve Port Infrastructure

During the Texas legislative session in 2027, Rees, in collaboration with member ports and TPA Executive Director Jade Gillespie, will seek to advance support for port infrastructure, improve shipping channels, and enhance road and rail communications that are essential for transporting Texas goods to market.

Rees's Experience and Goals

Rees, who has been a member of the TPA board since 2023, believes that "there has never been a more important time to support investments in Texas ports to strengthen the transportation network that keeps Texas competitive and helps maintain its position as the eighth-largest economy in the world. I am honored to share this message on behalf of TPA members in Austin."

Jade Gillespie also stated, "Texas ports have a strong story to tell, and Rodger will help us tell this story with a strong and united voice. He understands what is at stake for our ports and the communities they serve. I look forward to working with him to turn this process into meaningful investments and ensure Texas ports are a priority in Congress."

Since January 2018, Rees has managed the Galveston port, overseeing cruise and cargo operations, and has also been implementing a 20-year strategic plan to optimize assets at the 840-acre deep-water port. He previously served as Deputy Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer at Port Canaveral and has extensive experience in port finance, major investments, and business development.
