The bridges of Kyiv and Russian oil refineries have recently become targets of retaliatory attacks between the two countries. While four proposals for a limited ceasefire in the Ukraine war have been presented, the battlefield developments indicate increased military pressure from both sides.

Attacks on Kyiv Bridges and Russian Infrastructure

On Sunday, Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, announced that a Russian drone had struck the northern bridge over the Dnipro River, causing damage to its roadway. This attack resulted in two injuries and damage to part of Kyiv's hot water system. The Russian Ministry of Defense has also confirmed that the northern bridge is being used for the transfer of troops and military cargo.

At the same time, Ukraine is also ramping up attacks on Russian oil refineries. Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, has described this action as a response to Russia's pressures on Ukrainian infrastructure, stating that Russia's goal is to weaken Ukraine's ability to continue its resistance.

Military Pressure and Diplomatic Efforts

Despite diplomatic efforts to halt the fighting, military pressure continues. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has announced that four proposals for a limited ceasefire have been received from the United States, India, Turkey, and Egypt. According to Andriy Sybiha, the Indian proposal is broader than the others and includes a cessation of hostilities in the Black Sea.

Kyiv is also prepared to consider a simultaneous ceasefire in the energy sector and the Black Sea, and has even proposed halting attacks on Russian refineries in exchange for stopping attacks on Ukraine's power grid. However, Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, has described this proposal as "ridiculous" and it seems Moscow is still unwilling to accept such an exchange.

Currently, a kind of confrontation has emerged between the transport and energy infrastructures of the two countries. Russia is increasing pressure on Ukraine's communication routes, while Ukraine is exerting pressure on Russian energy infrastructure. This situation could escalate the economic and social costs of the ongoing war.

It appears that both sides are trying to enter negotiations from a stronger position. At present, the bridges of Kyiv and Russian oil refineries have become symbols of this situation where diplomacy and military pressure are proceeding simultaneously.
