The Port of Huelva has granted ZAL Huelva a 50-year concession for the construction and operation of a new logistics area in Punta del Sebo. This action is part of a project that the Spanish port has been pursuing in recent years.
Details of the Concession and Area Size
This concession includes over 147,000 square meters of port service area and has been awarded to ZAL Huelva following a public tender. The area will be dedicated to logistics, transportation, distribution, industrial, and agricultural activities. This concession marks an important first phase of the larger logistics development of the Port of Huelva.
Long-Term Plans for the Port of Huelva
The Port of Huelva's plans for this logistics area include development of up to 60 hectares in Punta del Sebo, located between the industrial complex of the port and the city, supported by road and rail access. For the first time in 2022, the port put the construction and operation of logistics warehouses at this site out to tender.
In the same board meeting, tariffs for a cold energy distribution network serving the cold logistics hub of Huelva at Muelle Sur were also approved. This system will utilize residual cold generated at the Enagás liquefied natural gas plant to meet the needs of the Friportsur cold storage development and other potential users.
Commercial Developments at the Port of Huelva
This concession is granted to ZAL Huelva as the Port of Huelva seeks to diversify its activities beyond bulk liquid and dry trade. In the first eight months of 2026, the port handled over 20.1 million tons of cargo, reflecting a 2.2% increase compared to the previous year, while container traffic decreased by 29.4% to 77,723 TEU.
