LS Cable & System, along with its subsidiary LS Marine Solution, signed an agreement to reserve capacity for the supply and installation of undersea cables for the 504 megawatt Taean wind energy project. This agreement aims to supply undersea cables and carry out installation work for the Taean wind energy project, located on the western coast of South Korea.
Details of the Agreement and Implementation Steps
Currently, the two companies are conducting engineering and preliminary studies to determine the specifications of the cables and the final scope of installation at sea. This agreement follows their selection as the preferred negotiating partners in 2024. Their goal is to finalize the contract value and other commercial terms before the end of 2026.

Role of LS Cable & System and LS Marine Solution
According to the proposed agreement, LS Cable & System will be responsible for the production of undersea cables, while LS Marine Solution will carry out the offshore installation using the modern cable-laying vessel GL2030. This vessel has recently completed a major upgrade, increasing its cable loading capacity from 4,000 tons to 7,000 tons.
These improvements allow for the installation of cable sections over 100 kilometers in length continuously, helping to reduce maritime trips and increase installation efficiency. The Taean wind energy project is being developed by Vena Energy, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, and Korea Western Power, with completion targeted for 2030.
Future Opportunities in Asia
LS Marine Solution has recently deployed the GL2030 in an undersea cable-laying project in Malaysia and is also seeking more opportunities in wind energy and high voltage direct current transmission across Asia. This agreement represents an important step towards developing renewable energy infrastructure in South Korea and other parts of Asia.
