Disruptions at the ExxonMobil refinery in Illinois have led to reduced fuel production and increased diesel prices in the United States. This disruption, which occurred due to a power outage at the refinery, has raised concerns about further increases in fuel prices as autumn and winter approach.

Economic Impacts on the Middle Class

According to data from the American Automobile Association, the national average price of gasoline in the United States has reached $4.31 per gallon, the highest recorded figure for the month of September. This increase in prices has particularly placed additional pressure on the middle class and American workers. Additionally, surveys show that 57% of voters consider the U.S. actions regarding Iran to be wrong, which may negatively affect the popularity of Donald Trump, the 47th President of the United States.

Challenges Facing the Trump Administration

With less than two months remaining until the midterm elections, rising energy prices have become a serious issue for the Trump administration. Trump's former economic advisor, Stephen Moore, described the atmosphere inside the White House as filled with despair due to its inability to resolve economic crises and rising energy prices. He also referred to rising energy prices as a tax on the American economy.

Given the reduction in diesel resources and the aging of some refineries, any small disruption in fuel production is expected to trigger a chain of price shocks. Furthermore, due to rising prices, public opinion is increasingly viewing the Democratic Party as a more suitable option for managing the country's economy.

However, the slight improvement in Trump's popularity following the Republican convention has not alleviated public concerns about price control and the economic situation. In fact, Trump's efforts to offer a $5,000 dividend if his party wins the November elections have faced widespread opposition.
