Hornbeck Offshore has signed multiple contracts with Shell for providing intervention services in deep wells and support for vessels in the Gulf of Mexico. These agreements include well intervention using riser systems, intervention without riser, stimulation support, and marine transportation services.

Contract Details

Under these contracts, Hornbeck will deploy an intervention vessel equipped with an intervention riser system, underwater robots, and engineering and project management support. Additionally, a high-specification multipurpose support vessel equipped with underwater robots, along with marine supply vessels compliant with the Jones Act, has been designated to support operations.

Operations are scheduled to commence in 2027, and the intervention vessel and support vessel will be under contract for five years. Hornbeck has not specified which vessels will participate in these operations or in which fields the work will be conducted.

Background of Collaboration

These contracts were signed following Hornbeck's merger with Helix Energy Solutions, which was completed in September of this year. This merger led to the integration of Hornbeck's support vessel fleet with Helix's well intervention, underwater robotics, and drilling operations.

The recent agreements also add to the strong relationship between Shell and Helix. In September 2024, Helix signed a multi-year contract with Shell for the Q5000 intervention vessel, which includes production enhancement operations as well as well plugging and abandonment activities, starting in 2025.

Hornbeck has not specified whether the new agreements will replace or extend the previous agreement. Additionally, Shell is pursuing a multi-year contract for decommissioning in the North Sea, recently signed by Hornbeck's subsidiary, Helix Well Ops, with work expected to begin in the second quarter of 2027.
