Mohammad Jafar Ghaempanah, the Executive Deputy of the President, on Tuesday, September 24, 1405, spoke about the reform of energy subsidies and the pricing of energy carriers. He stated that if the prices of gasoline, diesel, electricity, and gas reach the level of the cheapest neighboring country, it would generate significant revenue for the government that could be distributed among the people. In this context, Ghaempanah mentioned the scenario of pricing gasoline at 80,000 tomans and a monthly subsidy of 7 million tomans for each individual.

Details of the Pricing Scenario

Ghaempanah's statements came in the continuation of the recent weeks' discussions about reforming the energy subsidy system. He had previously pointed out the necessity of reforming the current pricing method for energy carriers, but in his new remarks, he presented a more specific calculation. According to this, if energy prices approach those of neighboring countries, the annual revenue from these changes is estimated to be around 720 trillion tomans.

Furthermore, if this scenario is realized, each Iranian will receive a monthly payment of 7 million tomans. These statements come at a time when the price of gasoline in Iran has increased from 10,000 tomans to 10,000 tomans since September 17, 1405, and the gap between the current rate and the proposed figure of 80,000 tomans is quite significant.

Impact on the Energy Subsidy System

Ghaempanah also stated on September 5 regarding the price and quota of gasoline that a final decision about changing the price and distribution method of gasoline has not yet been made. He mentioned that the continuation of the current trend is not sustainable and that decisions must be made before implementing any changes. In his remarks on September 24, the discussion of reforming the energy subsidy system and reducing smuggling was also raised. He emphasized that any reform of energy carrier prices must be carried out with a clear plan and social attachment.

According to Ghaempanah, the prices of gas, electricity, diesel, and gasoline could approach the level of the cheapest neighboring country, and if these changes are realized, it would generate 720 trillion tomans in annual revenue. He also referred to the price gap of energy in Iran compared to surrounding countries and its economic consequences, stating that the price difference in fuel is one of the factors contributing to smuggling.

Overall, the figure of 80,000 tomans is currently presented as a pricing scenario, and no official news regarding its implementation has been published. This proposal has only been presented as an idea and calculation that requires further clarification to be transformed into an executable program.
