Seyed Mohammad Atabak, Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade, during a visit to the Khorasan Steel Complex, emphasized the importance of supporting large industries and completing the production chain, stating: "Industrial units must have the ability to operate according to their designed capacity." He continued that the continuation of energy restrictions not only reduces income and production but also increases maintenance and production costs.
The Necessity of Managing Energy Imbalance
Atabak, referring to concerns raised about the water consumption of steel industries, stated that there is no concern about water resources in this complex due to the use of wastewater and investment in water treatment and recycling. He added: "This unit does not use water resources from the province to meet its water needs."
The Minister of Industry emphasized: "A more important issue for this production unit and other similar industries is the energy imbalance and the limitation in electricity supply. A factory designed to operate for about 320 days a year, when it can only produce for about 150 days, naturally loses a significant portion of the income and resources necessary for rebuilding, renewing, and developing its production lines."
The Impact of Energy Imbalance on Production and Economy
Atabak stated: "Frequent stopping and starting of production equipment due to energy imbalance, especially in steel units, not only reduces production but also increases maintenance and repair costs, leading to equipment wear and tear." He pointed out the necessity of completing the production chain of this complex, saying: "We should not view production units in isolation from the production chain; production is a national issue, and disruption in one part of the chain affects the income and added value of other sections and the economy."
Atabak concluded by referring to the President's directive regarding electricity supply for industries, stating: "According to the President's directive, electricity for industries should not be cut in a way that disrupts their production activities. The continuation of energy imbalance is neither economically beneficial for the country nor compatible with the goal of completing production chains and strengthening large industries; therefore, imbalances must be managed in a way that preserves grid stability while also protecting production and industrial investment."
