Caturus, an American company active in gas and LNG, has announced a new project that adds 7.75 million tons per year (mtpa) to its LNG export capacity at its facilities located in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. This move is aimed at nearly doubling the planned capacity of the company's LNG export facilities.
Details of the New Project
The Caturus development project includes five production trains that will bring the total capacity of the facilities to approximately 17.25 million tons per year. This project is expected to be operational in the early 2030s, following the completion of the main planned projects. Caturus has recently made a final investment decision (FID) on its six-train, 9.5 million tons per year facility and has successfully secured $9.75 billion in financing for this project.

Market Analysis and Future Outlook
David Lawler, CEO of Caturus, emphasized that global demand for sustainable and affordable energy continues to rise, and the United States is well-positioned to meet these needs. He noted that these discussions are being addressed in G20 and Gastech meetings, and the Commonwealth LNG facilities will help meet this demand.
The development of new capacity is seen as a natural step in line with Caturus's ongoing projects. The Caturus team is looking to leverage its experience in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) to advance this new project. The company has already allowed its EPC partner, Technip Energies, to order the main equipment needed for the facilities. This equipment includes six mixed refrigerant compressors from Baker Hughes and LM9000 gas turbines.
The Commonwealth LNG project can load LNG vessels up to 216,000 cubic meters and has secured long-term agreements with several major companies such as EQT, Glencore, and Aramco Trading. Caturus is striving to pursue its development project with speed and precision while maintaining constructive communications with the local community and government officials.
