Austal USA has officially launched and certified its floating dry dock located at the ship repair facility in San Diego. This dry dock is recognized as the main center for the repair and service unit of Austal USA, aimed at optimizing the maintenance of small military vessels and similarly sized ships.

Development of Repair Capabilities

Gene Miller, President of Austal USA, stated: "Austal's dry dock significantly expands our ability to provide a complete repair center to the Navy and other customers in San Diego. This capability will be a highly valuable asset for our customers, and we will respond to the increasing demand for dry dock services on the West Coast."

Technical Specifications of the Dry Dock

The new dry dock has a displacement capacity of 9,000 tons. It is 531 feet (162 meters) long and 154 feet (47 meters) wide, with a wall thickness of 13.12 feet (4 meters) and a maximum depth of 36 feet (11 meters). Additionally, the cranes of this dry dock have a total lifting capacity of 16 metric tons.

Austal USA expressed gratitude to its partners who played a key role in the final installation and preparation for the dry dock certification. R.E. Staite Engineering Inc. provided essential marine and coastal construction and drilling services, while Chula Vista Electric was responsible for the installation of shore power. Austal USA closely collaborated with the Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) C980 and Heger dry dock, whose critical support was vital for the successful certification of the dry dock.
