Cavotec and EVIAS have signed an exclusive agreement to distribute EVIAS automatic electric vehicle charging technology globally. This technology allows electric vehicles to be charged while in motion, which in turn increases equipment efficiency and occupies less space in busy ports.

Agreement Details

Under this agreement, Cavotec is recognized as the exclusive distributor and installer of EVIAS technology in the global port sector. This technology will be marketed under the brand name "Cavotec powered by EVIAS." This collaboration addresses the growing need for electrification in horizontal transport at ports, aiming to improve operational efficiency and reduce carbon emissions at container terminals.

EVIAS Technology

EVIAS technology is a conductive charging system designed for intensive fleet operations. A robotic arm mounted on the vehicle automatically locates and connects to the charging rail, allowing for power transfer while in motion or waiting to load a container. The modular design of this technology enhances safety and facilitates easy integration with existing port infrastructure. This solution minimizes vehicle downtime, thereby occupying less space at any given time.

Benefits of Collaboration

This collaboration combines Cavotec's global presence and extensive experience in port electrification and automation with EVIAS's patented technology. It enables Cavotec to expand its service offering to electrification of horizontal transport within port terminals and build upon its existing suite of electrification solutions for cranes and ships. Additionally, this technology aligns with Cavotec's innovative automation solutions such as connected automated systems and the MoorMaster automatic mooring systems.

David Pagels, CEO of Cavotec, stated: "EVIAS's fully automated charging technology naturally fits into the challenging operational environments of our port customers and complements our existing suite of electrification and automation solutions. This collaboration allows us to extend our offering to horizontal transport and provide a more integrated approach to electrification in the port, from ship and crane applications to terminal operations. Before entering this collaboration, we evaluated various automatic charging solutions available in the market, and EVIAS clearly stood out in terms of its offerings and technical design."

Olivier Besson, one of the founders and CEO of EVIAS, added: "Collaborating with Cavotec is more than just a distribution agreement - it is a strong endorsement of the maturity and reliability of our technology. Cavotec's global presence and over 50 years of experience give us this unique opportunity to accelerate the global adoption of dynamic charging and introduce it as the new standard for electrification in ports, much faster than we could have done alone. At the same time, we will continue to focus on developing our other strategic markets, including urban transport, road freight, autonomous vehicles, and airports."
