UK P&I Club and TT Club voted positively for the merger of their two organizations during special public meetings held on October 7 and 8, 2026. This merger aims to create the first mutual marine cargo insurance center in the supply chain, encompassing maritime, logistics, ports, and terminals.

Details of the Merger and Its Impact

The member voting, which began in September, will lead to the establishment of a new group that will officially start operations on February 20, 2027. This merger comes at a time when the marine insurance and logistics market is facing challenges, including geopolitical uncertainties, rising claims costs, rapid technological changes, and increasing competition.

The merger of the two organizations will bring significant benefits to members. UK P&I Club, which insures over 250 million tons of cargo, and TT Club, which covers 80 percent of the world's container fleet, will combine forces. This new center is expected to generate annual revenues of around $750 million and free reserves of nearly $888 million.

Emphasis on Supporting Members

Leaders of both organizations have emphasized that this merger will allow them to assist members more effectively in managing complex and interconnected environments. By creating a larger scale, financial strength, and sustainability, this center will provide long-term value for members. Members will benefit from leading technical expertise, access to specialized knowledge and technologies, and broader resources and distribution networks.

The parent company of this new group will be named “United Transport Mutual Limited” (UTM), and this company will continue to provide governance, financial strength, and stability to the organizations. Each of these two organizations will retain their names and positions in the market, and members will continue to benefit from existing service and underwriting teams.

Leaders of the two organizations are committed to carefully managing the transition for members, clients, and staff, and there will be no changes to the day-to-day collaboration processes with members, brokers, and clients.
