Well-Safe Solutions, which operates in the decommissioning services sector, has recently announced the completion of a three-well plug and abandonment (P&A) campaign in the waters off West Shetland and the North Sea. This operation was carried out using the semi-submersible platform Well-Safe Defender, which was built in 1982. The platform, originally known as the WilPhoenix, was utilized to perform plug and abandonment operations on three subsea wells.
P&A Operation Details
The P&A operations involved plugging and abandonment of subsea wells in two different areas, with the first well located off West Shetland and the other two in the North Sea. Following a five-year periodic inspection of the platform, it was sent to the field to support Well-Safe Solutions' first well management contract and carried out P&A operations on a client's subsea well.

Well-Safe Solutions emphasized that this project showcases the company's integrated capabilities, which include project management, subsea design and engineering, and platform capabilities in a single delivery model. This integrated approach provided opportunities to reduce costs, time, and operational risk while emphasizing safety and efficient execution.
Operations in the Magnus Field
After completing operations on the initial wells, the Well-Safe Defender was moved to the Magnus field, where two additional wells were decommissioned on behalf of EnQuest. This operation was part of a multi-year contract. The owner of the Well-Safe Defender platform highlighted the success of these three wells and emphasized the commitment and teamwork of all individuals involved in the operation, including offshore crews, onshore teams, clients, and contractors.
Decommissioning operations have been recognized as a strength for Well-Safe Solutions and represent the company's integrated capabilities in this field. The Well-Safe Defender underwent major upgrades and repairs in 2011 and 2016 and was purchased from Awilco Drilling in June 2022.
