Transocean Maritime Agencies, based in Monaco, has ordered two chemical and product tankers with a capacity of 50,000 tons from the shipyard in Guangzhou, China. This contract is recognized as the first order from a shipowner based in Monaco for this yard and signifies further expansion of the company's fleet construction program.
Order Details and Financial Terms
The financial details, delivery dates, and specifications of these tankers have yet to be announced. Transocean, a private family-owned shipping company, was founded in the 1960s by Günther Nonnhofer and continues its operations under the leadership of Ruth McLoughlin. The company has a fleet consisting of approximately 15 vessels, primarily comprising cargo ships and tankers.
Fleet Program Expansion and Entry into New Markets
This new order follows Transocean's entry into the container ship market last year. In October 2025, this Monaco-based owner was recognized as the buyer of two new vessels with a capacity of 1,930 TEU from the Guangzhou Huangpu Wenchong yard, which are scheduled for delivery in 2028. These vessels, named Ajax C and Apollo C, mark Transocean's first entry into the container sector.
Additionally, shipbuilding sources have also confirmed the company's connection to the order of two more container ships with a capacity of 3,100 TEU from the New Dayang yard. Transocean had previously ordered two ultra-max cargo ships with a capacity of 64,000 tons from the New Dayang yard in 2024 and continues its fleet expansion strategy across several Chinese yards.
The new contract also adds to the busy period for the Guangzhou yard in the MR (Medium Range) tanker sector. This yard has recently attracted orders from companies such as Advantage Tankers based in Geneva and the Greek shipowner Top Ships.
