The Republican defeat in the U.S. midterm elections clearly indicates the return of the costs of Trump's foreign policy back to this country. This outcome is not only a typical shift in the congressional composition but also reflects the public's reaction to the consequences of decisions made to consolidate Washington's power, which in practice led to political dissatisfaction and economic pressure.

Trump's Foreign Policy and Its Consequences

The Trump administration based its foreign policy on displays of power, maximum pressure, and achieving quick victories. However, America's adventure against Iran did not turn into a success and, on the contrary, resulted in multiple failures for the aggressors. This policy returned economic and political costs to the U.S. and affected household lives and economic activities.

Rising Energy and Living Costs in America

The rise in energy costs, particularly gasoline and diesel prices, was one of the direct consequences of this failure. Estimates released by Brown University indicate that the additional cost of gasoline and diesel for American consumers, compared to a non-conflict scenario, has exceeded $100 billion. This figure clearly shows the economic pressure, as rising fuel prices not only affect drivers but also lead to increased production costs and raw material procurement.

These costs ultimately get passed on to the prices of goods and services, impacting people's daily lives. As a result, the Trump administration now must be accountable for the costs arising from its policies. The dissatisfaction of American voters with economic conditions was clearly reflected in the midterm election results.

Election Results and Political Changes

The Republican defeat in the U.S. midterm elections indicates the depth of the problems facing this party. Democrats not only won in competitive states but also achieved victories in areas that had been reliable Republican strongholds for decades. For example, Democrats secured a Senate seat in Kansas after 94 years; a state where Trump had won the 2024 presidential election by more than 16 percent.

The victories of Democrats in Texas and South Carolina also indicate fundamental changes in the political landscape of America. These defeats occurred despite Trump personally supporting Republican candidates and figures like Elon Musk funding the campaigns. However, these supports could not prevent the Republican losses.

The election results show that part of the Republican voter base is no longer willing to support it without regard to the consequences of the government's actions. Nevertheless, the Democrats' victory should not be interpreted as a fundamental change in U.S. foreign policy. The main disagreement between Republicans and Democrats is more about methods and tools of execution, and neither party has genuinely addressed the logic of American dominance and bullying.
