Tenaris, based in Luxembourg, has signed contracts for the supply of oil country tubular goods (OCTG), line pipes, and coating services for the first commercial gas development in Cyprus, led by Eni along with TotalEnergies.

Kronos Project Details

The Kronos project is located in the deep waters of block 6 and utilizes a fast-track approach to leverage existing regional infrastructure. The gas resources of this project are estimated to exceed 3 trillion cubic feet (equivalent to 85 billion cubic meters) and are expected to reach a production level of up to 500 million standard cubic feet (14.2 million cubic meters) per day. The final investment decision (FID) was made on July 28, and its launch is anticipated in the first half of 2028.

Gas Transportation and Processing

The gas produced from this field will be transported to Egypt, where it will be processed at existing facilities, including the Zohr infrastructure, and then liquefied at the Damietta LNG plant for export to international markets, primarily Europe. Tenaris will provide a coordinated set of piping and OCTG equipment and will support the transportation and offshore drilling infrastructure needs.

This project will be executed under Tenaris' One Line service model, which integrates pipe production, coating, and logistics into a comprehensive piping solution. Seamless pipes will be produced at the Dalmine plant in Italy and will be supplied with bending prevention devices and a three-layer polypropylene anti-corrosion coating (3LPP) applied at the company's coating facilities in Italy.

For offshore drilling needs, Tenaris will supply all piping requirements. Part of the order includes Dopeless technology, which is a multifunctional coating designed to eliminate the need for thread compounds and simplify the transportation and preparation of pipes, according to the company.

Alessandro D’Angelo, Tenaris' commercial vice president for OCTG in Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States, and Sub-Saharan Africa, stated: “Our selection to supply OCTG along with line pipes for Kronos demonstrates the value of our integrated piping offering and our ability to support customers through various stages of complex offshore developments.”
