Swedish company Veritas Tankers has signed a contract to purchase up to six chemical tankers from Nantong Rainbow Offshore & Engineering Equipment in China. The value of this contract may reach $248 million.
Contract Details
The parent company of this factory, Jiangsu Rainbow Heavy Industries, has confirmed that this contract has been signed with an unnamed European owner, and the total value of the six-pack of these vessels, including options, amounts to 1.5 to 1.65 billion yuan ($225 to $248 million). Swedish shipping sources have identified Veritas Tankers as the buyer, although the company has not publicly confirmed this partnership yet.

Delivery Plans and Ship Design
Rainbow has not specified how many vessels from this contract are firm and how many remain optional, but it has announced that the delivery of the vessels will begin 28 months after the contract is signed. The new vessels are designed for the transportation of chemicals with designs suitable for confined waterways and operational conditions in Northern Europe.
This agreement adds a new European customer to Rainbow's chemical tanker business. The factory has previously signed a contract with German company John T. Essberger for the purchase of two 13,000 dwt stainless steel chemical tankers and four additional options, with deliveries starting in 2027.
Since 2022, Ove Johnsson has had full ownership and control of Veritas Tankers. The company currently has a fleet of five chemical tankers.
