The test of a new cooling film at Valencia Port last summer faced significant results. This test was conducted under the supervision of specialized teams and in collaboration with the port community and the Valencia Foundation. The aim of this test was to evaluate the efficiency of an innovative technology for reducing temperatures in containers.

Details of the Test and Its Results

In this test, four 20-foot containers exposed to sunlight were monitored for 15 days. One of the containers remained as a reference without any covering, while the other three containers were covered using different methods: one with a conventional thermal blanket, another with a cover only on the roof, and the last container with a cover on both the roof and walls. The collected data showed that the standard container experienced temperatures above 53 degrees Celsius and spent more than a third of its time above 40 degrees. In contrast, the fully covered container never exceeded a temperature of 34.2 degrees.

Benefits of the Innovative Technology

This technology, which reflects sunlight instead of isolating and trapping heat, allows containers to cool naturally at night. According to Juan Manuel Díaz, Head of Innovation at Valencia Port Authority, this test demonstrates that innovation can contribute to improving the efficiency and sustainability of the entire transport and logistics sector. Additionally, Salvador Fiore, Deputy General Manager and Director of Innovation at the Valencia Foundation, emphasized that this test is a testament to the foundation's commitment to supporting startups and innovative solutions.

Alfredo Soler, CEO of Trans Base Solar, also highlighted the importance of this test, stating: "In the Valencia port community, we have come to believe that innovation is not limited to large projects but includes testing new solutions that can improve our daily work. Observing a temperature reduction from 50 degrees to just above 30 degrees without energy consumption is something that excites all of us."

The main advantage of this technology could include the protection of cargo, improved working conditions, and reduced energy consumption. Javier Achiga, CEO of Cooling Photonics, confirmed the results of this test, saying: "This test in a fully operational warehouse at the peak of the Mediterranean summer was the best possible validation. These results show that the transport and logistics sector has a real opportunity to improve current conditions."
