Namsung Shipping, a maritime transport fleet based in Seoul, has recently signed an important contract for the construction of two 7,100 TEU container ships with Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (DSIC) in China. This contract also includes options for two additional ships, and delivery of these vessels is expected between 2030 and 2031.

Contract Details and Delivery Timeline

According to published reports, the DSIC shipyard, which is owned by CSSC, has secured this contract, and the final stages of construction for these ships will now commence. The price and specifications of the propulsion system for these vessels have not yet been announced. This contract marks Namsung Shipping's first order with DSIC and the second shipbuilding agreement for the company in China this calendar year.

Namsung's Steps in the Chinese Market

In March of this year, Namsung Shipping ordered two 4,300 TEU container ships from the Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding yard owned by CSSC. This order is part of a larger agreement involving four ships, which includes two additional 1,900 TEU vessels signed by Dongyoung Shipping, another South Korean operator. Namsung's recent contract for the 7,100 TEU ships represents a significant increase in the size of the company's vessels compared to previous orders.

Namsung Shipping, established in 1953, primarily operates in maritime transport along domestic Asian routes, connecting countries such as South Korea, Japan, China, and Southeast Asia. The company's current website showcases 20 operational ships, and its network includes several regional services.

DSIC's Position in the Global Market

The DSIC shipyard is also significantly involved in the construction of commercial vessels, including tankers, product tankers, bulk carriers, and container ships. The yard is recognized for its quality and manufacturing capabilities in the shipbuilding industry, and given recent contracts, it appears poised to continue expanding its activities in the near future.
