Serica Energy has added Spirit Energy's gas and oil assets in the North Sea to its portfolio through a multi-million dollar deal. This transaction includes assets from the southern North Sea and will help strengthen the company's production base and reserves.
Deal Details and Payments
Serica Energy has announced that it paid £33 million (equivalent to $43 million) to Spirit Energy for this deal. This amount includes an initial payment of £57 million ($75 million), which has been reduced to the final amount due to temporary post-tax cash flows. The effective economic date of this transaction is set from January 1, 2025, to October 1, 2026.

Production Increase and Financial Forecasts
This deal allows Serica Energy to add approximately 10,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd) to its production, and it is expected that free cash flow from these assets will exceed $200 million by the end of 2028. This forecast has significantly increased due to the strong outlook for gas prices and robust production.
The new assets include a significant gas portfolio in the North Sea with 18.7 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe) in 2P reserves and 3.4 million barrels of oil equivalent as 2C resources as of the economic date of the transaction. Additionally, this deal includes a 15% non-operating interest in the Cygnus gas field and a 25% non-operating interest in the Clipper South gas field.
Decommissioning Responsibilities and Economic Impacts
Spirit Energy will retain decommissioning responsibilities on its operating assets, which account for over 75% of the total estimated decommissioning liabilities. Serica Energy views this as a supportive factor in the attractive economic assessment of this deal.
Serica Energy's CEO, Chris Cox, expressed his pleasure and stated that this deal will contribute to increasing production and reserves while shifting the company's commodity weight towards gas. He also added that this deal is excellent for Serica Energy, leading quickly to cash flow production and strengthening the company's position in the UK gas market.
Serica Energy is now welcoming its new partners in Haffordorp, Netherlands, and Aberdeen, and is planning for the swift integration of these assets. The company is striving to make its business in the North Sea stronger, more resilient, and more productive.
