The spokesperson for the judiciary announced the seizure of the oil tanker 'Adventure Suite' and the process of compensating butterfly patients. This tanker, flying the flag of the Marshall Islands and carrying crude oil from the shared region between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, was seized on April 24, 2023, at Shahid Rajaei Port in Hormozgan Province.
Details of Seizure and Compensation
Kazemi further explained: This seizure was carried out at the request of the lawyers of 771 patients suffering from Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), who filed a complaint against the United States, determining material and moral damages against that country. For each claimant, five million dollars in material damages and eight million dollars in moral damages were calculated at current rates.

After the verdict was issued and legal procedures were completed, quantities from the seized tanker were sold, and the proceeds from this sale were paid to the butterfly patients who had litigated in this case. Last week, a ceremony was held at the Tehran judiciary, and part of these amounts was symbolically donated to several patients.
Legal and Executive Consequences
Kazemi continued: The payment of compensation to butterfly patients requires following the execution of judgments and may take time. He also emphasized that the judiciary is pursuing this case with the utmost speed possible. However, it is possible that the amount paid may not fully compensate for all the damages incurred by these patients.
The spokesperson for the judiciary noted: The judiciary is ready to listen to the demands of butterfly patients, and so far, no specific cases of dissatisfaction have been reported by them. This case reflects the judiciary's efforts to compensate individuals who have been harmed due to incorrect foreign policies.
