Sinokor, a prominent owner of VLCC tankers, has become a target of Iranian threats due to new sanctions. These threats have been announced against the entire fleet of this company since Sunday. Meanwhile, the Strait of Hormuz has witnessed new attacks that have directly damaged the hulls of tankers, raising serious concerns about shipping security.
Attacks in the Strait of Hormuz
In the Strait of Hormuz, attackers caused a fire in the engine room of a tanker by placing explosives on its hull. This type of attack, which uses explosives instead of missile and drone strikes, has significantly increased concerns among tanker owners. Additionally, statistics show that 24 deaths have been recorded in and around the Strait of Hormuz this year.

Consequences and Reactions
The recent attacks and Iranian threats against Sinokor have led to increased tensions in the global shipping industry. In light of these developments, many companies are seeking to enhance the security of their fleets and explore alternative routes for oil transportation. This comes as two major merger agreements in Europe indicate the shipping industry's desire for greater control over supply chains.
The merger agreement between the Spanish shipping group Boluda and the Dutch multi-faceted operator Samskip has created a network of 28 countries, 32 ships, and 18 routes. Additionally, the company Contship has returned to the maritime transport industry by acquiring the Italian company Taurus and is working to expand its services in the Mediterranean Sea.
These developments, alongside security challenges in the Strait of Hormuz, highlight the need for a reassessment of strategies and safety measures in the shipping industry. In this context, port workers in 22 countries and regions have staged protests and strikes aimed at protesting working conditions and wages.
